Product Description

General Information

Game-changing innovations - or ones we're told to believe are game-changing - come and go quite often in cycling. Rare are the true revolutions, but this - the all-new, wireless SRAM Red eTap wireless shifting system - is exactly that. Frames can now be designed and engineered differently. Bikes will be built and serviced differently. And by “differently,” we mean better. SRAM's eTap platform is a forerunner of great things to come.

Those already familiar with SRAM's excellent ergonomics will find their hands right at home with Red eTap’s marginally revised ErgoBlade levers. What changes is the mechanism used to shift gears. It's still simple: tap one lever for a rear upshift, tap the other for rear downshift, and tap both at once to shift the front chainring. That’s it. The functionality is identical for both Road and Tri/TT groups. The automatic chainline trimming that other electronic systems is not something you’ll experience with eTap, because it’s not necessary; SRAM’s Yaw front derailleur architecture makes it possible to be in any gear combination without any chain rub.

SRAM employs a proprietary wireless frequency protocol called Airea for communication between the shifters and the derailleurs. Fear not that your drivetrain will experience interference from other eTap systems or nearby electronics, because it won’t happen. The derailleurs’ batteries last about 1000km, or 60 hours of riding, and recharging each takes less than an hour. The shifters use standard watch-style CR2032 batteries, and can last an astonishing two years at around 250km per week before needing replacement. Installation is simple, and possible on any standard road or triathlon/TT frameset. Maintenance is essentially a non-issue.
