2015 Look 927 Carbon XT/XTR Bike

Product Description

General Information

Look's 927 Carbon also comes equipped as a Shimano XT/XTR bike. It shares both the frameset as well as much of the componentry with the SRAM XX1 version. It departs to give you more gears and simpler, more durable brakes. These two sets of changes also have the benefit of dropping the price nicely.

The two bikes have the same frameset. The Look 927 carbon is Look's do-it-all bike built around 27.5" wheels. They like this new diameter because it affords better rolling than 26" wheels and greater maneuverability than 29" wheels. You still get excellent traction and momentum without having a difficult time threading your way through rock gardens and tree-lined serpentine ascents. Look then enhances the frames abilities by producing a stiff-in-all directions main triangle and pairing it with a vertically-compliant rear triangle. The main triangle is about stiffness and light weight, from the proprietary A-stem atop the steerer, to the tapered 1 1/8" to 1 1/2" steerer, to the oversized carbon down tube to the BB30 bottom bracket and 31.6mm seat tube diameter. The rear stays are designed to soak up all the small bumps you can encounter on the trail. By doing this they increase the sensitivity of the rear end, and small-bump master RockShox Monarch RT3 rear shock thus is employed for smoothly adapting to bigger hits, effectively allowing you to extend the travel of the 120mm shock, depending on how you tune it.

The fork is RockShox's SID RCT3, a 120mm travel, 15mm thru-axle cross-country fork. RCT3 is their three-position damper that allows for on-the-fly adjustment as well as distinct low-speed compression adjustments. With Rapid Recovery to better slide the fork back between bumps and a single Solo Air Cartridge for your air spring chambers, you can adjust quickly and easily and are ready to go with few surprises.

The wheels are also identical. These are tubeless-ready American Classic Wide Lightnings, with 32mm wide rims and thin, strong, durable base tape that both seals air in and keeps the tape thin to make installing and removing tires easy. They're dressed with tubeless-ready Continental X-King 2.2" tires, which, like the bike, are excellent all-condition tires, with knobs designed for low rolling-resistance down the center, wide spacing for mud clearing, and sharp side knobs for solid cornering.

The brakes are Magura's MT4, a more economical version of the MT8. These skip many of the weight-saving tricks, like ample use of carbon, and still stop with the same power and precision, with only a slight weight penalty. The American Classic wheels are supplied with six-bolt 160mm rotors.

The drive train is a mix of Shimano XT and XTR components, with a little FSA and KMC thrown in. FSA brings their SLK carbon-fiber crankset with 38/24 rings. That drives a KMC chain mated to an XT 11-36 ten-speed cassette. Shifting is with XT shifters, an XTR rear derailleur and XT front changer.

The bike also sports Syntace's bars and stem. The Vector Carbon High 10 bar is light, stiff, and provides the rider with a 10mm rise and eight-degree rearward sweep. The Carbon Hi Flex P6 post is designed to give the rider ample fore-aft flex while limiting the lateral flex to zero. This further insulates the rider from the few vibrations that make it past the carbon-fiber rear triangle and the RockShox Monarch RT3 shock that comes with the frame.

The Look 927 XT/XTR Bike presents lots of innovation and top-shelf componentry for the rider who eludes categorization.
