2015 Look 927 Alloy XT/XTR Bike

Product Description

General Information

The Look 927 Alloy XT/XTR Bike is your preference if you want an aluminum main triangle to go with a smart component build. The Alloy XT/XTR is similar in many respects to the Carbon version, with the aluminum main triangle increasing durability, shedding cost, and adding a little weight.

The difference between Look's 927 Carbon and 927 Alloy frames is twofold. The first is the main triangle going to shaped and welded 6061 triple-butted aluminum. The second is the use of a conventional stem rather than Look's proprietary A-Stem. The geometry, the carbon-fiber rear triangle, and the shock, the RockShox Monarch RT3, remain unchanged. If anything, the main triangle is stiffer and more efficient, and it benefits bigger riders who are rougher on equipment and crash more frequently. The rear triangle, with carbon-fiber stays built to flex vertically and resist laterally, is great at smoothing out the small stuff, which means that the total suspension package has a greater range of both shock absorption and tuning because the shock comes in to play later in the suspension equation. As the Monarch excels at small hits, this strength can be used for bigger stuff. The travel in back is 120mm.

The fork is RockShox's SID RCT3, a 120mm travel, 15mm thru-axle cross-country fork. RCT3 is their three-position damper that allows for on-the-fly adjustment as well as distinct low-speed compression adjustments. With Rapid Recovery to better slide the fork back between bumps and a single Solo Air Cartridge for your air spring chambers, you can adjust quickly and easily and are ready to go with few surprises.

The name of this bikes build comes from the fact that Shimano XT is utilized for the shifters, front derailleur, and 11-36 ten-speed cassette. Shimano XT has a deserved reputation for being flawless, and splurging on the XTR Shadow rear derailleur gives a bit more to possibly the most worked component on a bike. The Shimano bits are mated to a FSA SLK 38/24 crankset and driven with a KMC chain.

As with its 927 Carbon cousin, this bike relies on Magura MT4 hydraulic brakes. The two-piston design is actuated by an alloy brake lever, putting reliability before flash. The brakes stop 160mm Magura rotors.

The Alloy version departs from its cousin in going with Mavic Crossride wheels. The Crossrides are classic Mavic, with a reliability and functionality that's hard to meet anywhere else. The smooth-rolling hubs roll on a 15mm thru-axle in front and a 12x142mm thru-axle in the rear. The wheels roll on Conti's X-King 2.2 tires. You'll find this rubber on all the 927's because it's an award-winning all-condition tire, which is perfect for the 927's charter.

In keeping with the 927 Alloy ethos, Look goes for Syntace cockpit components. The German manufacturer is great at making strong parts that keep weight down, particularly in aluminum. Here, Look uses their alloy stem, their Vector 7075 aluminum High 10 bars, and their alloy 31.6mm seat post. The bars are an alloy version of their carbon Vectors, with 10mm of rise and eight degrees of rearward sweep.

The Look 927 Alloy XT/XTR Bike gives you a high performance ride without stretching the bank.
