2016 ENVE SES 6.7 DT Swiss 240 Clincher Wheelset

Product Description

General Information

The SES 6.7 Clincher Wheelset is ENVE's medium-depth wheel. The more time you spend going pretty fast, the more this wheel is for you.
Rim depths are a subject of endless discussion among the tech crowd. It's balancing the benefits of greater aerodynamics with the costs of greater weight and the possibility that steering precision will go down. The 6.7 is fast, among the fastest in its depth class, faster than many deeper wheels, and its stability is really impressive given the depth.
The key to the set's impressive characteristics is Smart. Simon Smart, who is the first S in Smart ENVE System. The F1 aero guru teamed up with ENVE to rethink aero wheels. Instead of thinking of the rims as their own thing, SES treats the wheels as if they're moving clamped into a fork and frame. As such, there are different demands placed on each wheel. The front wheel strongly affects steering, while the rear wheel needs a little more strength and can be more aero because side winds affect it less. So the shapes were tweaked to work in accordance with their position. The front wheel is 60mm deep and 26mm while. The rear 70mm deep and 24mm wide.
The wheels are strong. They're virtually unbreakable both from the tire side and the spoke side. On the spoke side, the spoke holes have been molded rather than cut, and an internal nipple, which is also more aero, means the wheels' integrity is not compromised by spokes. On the tire side the brake track lay-up contributes to its hardiness as well as controlling heat buildup. Heat buildup is a major deal with carbon wheels, carbon clinchers especially. ENVE's process yields brake track temperatures that in many cases, even with prolonged braking and high loads, are actually lower than with aluminum rims.
As this is a system, ENVE has designed the brake pads that stop their wheels. The pads not only work better than anything else, wet or dry, but they are essential for the warranty. The wheels also come with rim strips, titanium-shafted ENVE skewers, and two sets of valve extenders.
The ENVE 6.7 rims are laced with DT Aerolite spokes, 20 radial front, 24 two-cross rear, to your choice of hub sets. One is Chris King's R45 Ceramic-bearing hubs. The other is DT Swiss' 240 hubs. Both hub sets have the option of cassette bodies for either Campagnolo 9/10/11 or SRAM/Shimano 10/11 cassettes (and you can buy extra bodies to swap easily). The Chris King set weighs in at 1558g, the DT Swiss at 1573g.
ENVE takes pride in building their rims and wheels in Utah. They're so confident in them that they not only have a five-year warranty on their products, but they also have a lifetime crash replacement policy where they'll replace any destroyed ENVE product for 50% of MSRP, provided the customer has the paperwork to prove original ownership.
The ENVE SES 6.7 Clincher Wheelset goes very fast and is still light enough for hills.
